New culture, new foods and new people

Although my first two weeks in Korea were spent in quarantine because of the Coronavirus, it was okay. For my first month in Korea I met my host family, traveled around my new town, met my school teachers, and attended my first week of school. It was really scary because of the language barrier between me and everyone but I had a lot of fun and interest in assimilating to the new culture and people. I ate a lot of new foods and learned about the local historical sites in town. The weather was also very nice in September so I was able to travel often with my host family.
My second and third month were really good. I made friends with many students at my school and we played together on the weekends often. My Korean skills became better and I was able to have conversations with my teachers and host parents. I put in effort and was active in all of my classes. In October, I started participating in after-school classes and taking the bus home. I spent 추석 together with my host family in 포항. We went to my host grandmother’s house and ate delicious food and played with a karaoke mic. Because there was no Coronavirus in 안강읍, we were able to travel often to museums and Korean historical sites.
In my last month in Korea, coronavirus came back. I was not able to go to school at all because of this so I was disappointed. I missed my school friends but tried to contact them often. I spent a lot of time at home playing with my host siblings and helping them with their school work. I also researched Korean universities for foreigners and studied Korean language everyday.
I went back to school to take finals and say "goodbye~" to all of our school friends. I exchanged gifts and letters with all of my friends. We cried but it’s okay because I will visit them again when I come back to Korea for college next year.
